But on older batteries they could really be telling you the battery is on it's last legs. Mind you if they do it on brand new batteries then that would suggest something is not quite right. Your Jessops charger might just stick a voltage across the batteries and not bother with all the clever stuff. It's possible the GP and Duracell chargers do more than just stuff a current through the battery but test it in some way to determine if it is OK. So I tried the new CEF22 with them and guess what ? The same problem ! Interestingly a basic Jessop charger would charge them and they`d then work quite happily in whatever device you wanted ! Basically you`d put the battery in to charge it and within 5 to 10 seconds the red LED would start flashing indicating faulty battery. One of the reasons I was buying this charger is my old one (a GP Power Bank Rapid GPPB02BS of 2004 vintage) appeared to be telling me that quiet a high proportion of my NiMh AAs were duff, particularly the Jessops 2100mAHs I`ve got. That came with a 15 year warranty, the CEF22 "only" has a 7 year warranty. We don`t really need the facility to charge C & D type batteries and Duracell also do another similar charger for only AA and AAA, the CEF15, which also charges 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 batteries, but it didn`t seem that much cheaper to buy. You can even mix say AA and C cells and charge both together. If you're in the market for some new batteries, check out Eneloops. It charges all the popular sizes of battery and will happily charge any number of batteries at a time. It still likely wouldn't work for 9v batteries, anyway. I've considered soldering a battery holder to the connectors of one of the charging slots, which would likely work, but I don't want to risk it. I've considered hacking the charger to be able to handle C and D batteries too, but I'm a bit leery of ruining it. The problem is that this charger will only handle AA/AAA batteries. I've increased the capacity of batteries by doing this. It also has advanced features like the refresh feature, that helps get batteries back to their full capacity by charging and discharging until there's no further increase in capacity. Simply putting the battery in will cause it to charge at 200 mA, until the battery is full, and then it drops down to a very low trickle charge. I highly recommend it! It's charged various different brands of AA/AAA batteries, at rates of 200, 500 or 700 mA. I have the updated model of the BC-700, the BL-700.
